Who will reign supreme in the ACC in 2009-2010?
The ACC is one of the best conferences in basketball, it has a wealth of talent at every position and an upset is possible every night. Every year it seems that the cream of this conference is Duke and North Carolina, but with both of these teams in a possible rebuilding year this conference could be wide open. We know this about the ACC; the teams are very tough, even those who dwell in the bottom of the conference at any time can beat the best teams. ACC by the numbers: There are four players that have scored over 1,000 or more points in their careers: Greivis Vasquez Sr. of Maryland (1540) Jon Scheyer Sr. of Duke (1397) Trevor Booker Sr. of Clemson (1262) Kyle Singler Jr. of Duke (1120)
Virginia Tech’s Malcolm Delaney is only 11 points away from 1,000 for his career.
In the AP polls there are 5 ACC teams ranked in the top 25: North Carolina ranked #6 Duke ranked #9 Georgia Tech ranked #22 Clemson ranked #24 Maryland ranked #25
ACC teams ranked #1 in the AP rankings through the years: North Carolina (105 times at #1) Duke (111 times at #1) North Carolina State (13 times at #1) Virginia (12 times at #1) Wake Forest (2 times at #1) Georgia Tech (1 time at #1)
North Carolina has been ranked in the AP poll more than any other school (763 times)
ACC players with double-figure scoring streaks: Kyle Singler of Duke with 18 games Jon Scheyer of Duke with 13 games Gani Lawai of Georgia Tech with 8 games Malcolm Delaney of Virginia Tech with 8 games Eric Hayes of Maryland with 7 games
The record for most double figure games in a row is (86) by Jeff Mullins of Duke
This year as always will be an amazing year in the ACC, I think that the old cream will rise to the top. North Carolina and Duke even in rebuilding years are quality teams, and with a high ranking in the AP, pollsters think so as well. When it is tournament time the ACC is always well represented and this year will be no different. So take your pick who will reign supreme in the ACC? Buckle up and get ready for a great year of ACC basketball.
