North Carolina vs Oral Roberts - NCAA Regional Baseball Recap

North Carolina 12, Oral Roberts 4 - Oral Roberts eliminated from regional

North Carolina - as shown by its loss to Oklahoma later in the day - fell victim on Sunday to a noted baseball affliction. The Tar Heels didn't save enough runs for their second game.

Indeed, Carolina needed to spread around the wealth. The Tar Heels did well to rock Oral Roberts out of the NCAA baseball tournament, but UNC could have used some of those extra window-dressing runs against the Sooners in Sunday's nightcap.

This game was won by the Tar Heels in the top of the fifth, when they scored four times to snag a 6-2 lead and cruise home to the finish line. Levi Michael broke a 2-2 tie with a solo homer, and a few batters later, Seth Baldwin delivered the big thunderbolt of the game, a three-run jack that created the 6-2 cushion. Carolina added four more runs - runs it could have used against Oklahoma - in the top of the eighth to put away the Golden Eagles.

All told, six Carolina hitters drove in at least one run, and the Tar Heels scored eight times in the middle three innings.

Chris Munnelly (3-2) gave up three runs in five innings for UNC, but that was good enough on a day when his Tar Heel teammates picked him up. ORU reliever Dan Martony (1-2) took the loss for the Golden Eagles after giving up four runs in just 1 2/3 innings.
